Individual Therapy on the Sunshine Coast

What Individual Therapy Helps With

Individual therapy for what you’re going through, whatever that looks like

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start individual therapy. Some people come with a clear issue, anxiety, depression, burnout. Others just know something isn’t right and need space to work through it with someone who listens without judgement.

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and overwhelm
  • Depression, low mood, and numbness
  • Burnout, stress, and work pressure
  • Identity, self-worth, and life transitions
  • Relationship patterns and attachment
  • Grief, loss, and emotional processing

What We Work With

You don’t need a diagnosis to start individual therapy

Some people come with a clear issue. Others just know something isn’t right. Individual therapy at Liberty meets you wherever you are, no labels required.

Anxiety & Overwhelm

Persistent worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, social anxiety, or a constant sense that something bad is about to happen. We go deeper than coping strategies to understand where your anxiety actually comes from.

Depression & Low Mood

It doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it’s numbness, exhaustion, withdrawing, or just going through the motions. Therapy helps you reconnect with what matters and find a way forward.

Burnout & Stress

Running on empty, dreading work, losing patience with the people you care about. Burnout isn’t just tiredness, it’s your mind telling you something needs to change. We work on what’s driving it, not just the symptoms.

Identity & Self-Worth

Feeling lost, not knowing who you are anymore, or struggling with the gap between who you present to the world and who you feel like inside. Therapy creates space to explore that honestly.

Relationships & Attachment

Repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling with trust, pushing people away, or losing yourself in others. Understanding your attachment style is often the key to breaking the cycle.

Life Transitions & Grief

Divorce, career change, becoming a parent, losing someone, retirement, relocation, transitions shake your sense of self. Therapy provides a steady space while everything else is shifting.

What Individual Therapy Helps With

Individual therapy that goes beneath the surface

Most psychologists on the Sunshine Coast use CBT, cognitive behavioural therapy. It’s effective for managing symptoms, but it doesn’t always reach the deeper patterns driving your distress.

At Liberty, Stacey uses psychodynamic and relational approaches that explore why you feel the way you do, not just how to cope with it. This is therapy that goes beneath the surface, working with the parts of you that have been carrying things for a long time.

Stacey’s background as a soldier and paramedic means she brings something most therapists can’t, lived experience of high-pressure environments, trauma, and the kind of emotional weight that doesn’t respond to textbook strategies. That shapes every session.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

A gentle, evidence-based approach that works with the different “parts” of your personality, understanding their protective roles rather than fighting against them.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Explores how early experiences and unconscious patterns shape your current relationships, emotions, and behaviours. Deep, lasting change rather than surface-level fixes.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Understanding how your earliest relationships influence how you connect, trust, and respond to others today. Central to relationship difficulties and self-worth.

Trauma-Informed Practice

Every session is grounded in an understanding of how trauma affects the mind and body. Safety, pacing, and respect for your experience come first, always.

Common Questions

Questions about Individual Therapy

Both psychologists and psychotherapists provide talk therapy, but they’re registered through different bodies. Psychologists are registered with AHPRA and often focus on CBT and structured approaches. Stacey is a psychotherapist registered with PACFA — which means she uses deeper, relational modalities like IFS and psychodynamic therapy. Both are qualified mental health professionals; the difference is in approach, not quality of care. Stacey also has private health fund rebate eligibility — ask during your discovery call.
No referral is required to see a psychotherapist. You can book directly without a GP referral or mental health care plan. However, if you have private health cover that includes “counselling” or “psychotherapy,” you may be able to claim a rebate. NDIS participants can also access sessions under their plan. We’re happy to discuss your options during the free discovery call.
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available via secure, encrypted video for anyone across the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Queensland, or anywhere in Australia. Online therapy uses the same approach, same session length, and the same therapist — just from wherever you’re comfortable. Many clients alternate between in-person and online depending on their week.
